This CD brings together exceptional compositions from three eminent European composers – Johann Sebastian Bach, Henry Purcell, and William Croft. The compositions range in both tonality and thematic scope from the stately sophistication of Bach’s French Suites to the vibrant and animated renditions of Purcell’s New Irish Tune and Rigadoon in C major. Thurston Dart showcases his mastery of the clavichord throughout the CD.
Dart’s rendition of the French Suites has a crisp, crystal symphony of notes that beautifully captures the essence of Bach’s counterpoint. Recorded around January 1961, despite the relative old age of this recording, the sound quality remains impressively clear and well-balanced, a testament to the outstanding technical standards of the period.
